Teesside is a plumbing region with a long memory. Victorian and Edwardian terraces across Middlesbrough and Stockton still carry runs that were converted from lead decades ago; the post-war estates in Billingham and Thornaby were built to repeating house types, so the same tired gate valve tends to turn up street after street; and Hartlepool sits on a genuinely hard water supply, which quietly shortens the life of anything that heats water. Good plumbing here is less about new fittings than about knowing which houses hide what.
We are a multi-trade firm based in Middlesbrough TS3, and our own plumbers in Teesside cover the whole conurbation rather than one town. That matters most on the jobs that are not really one trade: a bathroom that needs tiling and a new circuit, a kitchen move that needs the gas hob capping, a rented flat that needs three small things fixed before a tenancy starts.
What we get called out for
Most plumbing work in Teesside falls into four buckets, and they want different things from you.

The one thing we will not do is quote a bathroom over the phone. Anyone who does is quoting a different bathroom to the one you have.
Emergencies, and what actually helps
If water is coming out and you cannot stop it, the stopcock is the whole game. In most houses here it is under the kitchen sink; in older terraces it can be in a hall cupboard or under the stairs, and in flats it is sometimes in a shared riser cupboard. It closes clockwise. There is also an external stop tap at the boundary, usually under a small metal cover in the path.
Two things are worth doing on a quiet afternoon rather than during a leak: find yours, and check it actually turns. A seized stopcock is a small job. Discovering it is seized while your ceiling fills is not.
If you can smell gas, that is not a plumbing call. Ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, leave the gas alone, open windows and avoid electrical switches. Once it is safe, our Gas Safe engineers can take over the repair.
Hard water, and why Hartlepool is different
Most of Teesside is supplied by Northumbrian Water. Hartlepool is not — it is supplied by Hartlepool Water, part of Anglian Water, and it is a hard water area. The practical effect is on anything that heats water: kettles fur up, shower cartridges stiffen, and immersion heaters and combi heat exchangers scale over years rather than decades.
It changes what we recommend rather than what we charge. In Hartlepool we will usually suggest serviceable shower valves over sealed cartridges you cannot get parts for, and it is worth asking about scale protection when a boiler is being replaced rather than after.
Bathrooms are plumbing, plus three other trades
Bathrooms and tiling are our signature work, and the reason we do so much of it is that a bathroom is never only plumbing. It is first fix, then tiling, then often a new lighting or shower circuit, then making good the decoration. When those are four different firms, the gaps between them are where the fortnight goes.

Landlords and between-tenancy work
A void week is the cheapest time to do plumbing in a rented property and the worst time to discover it needs doing. The pattern we see across Teesside portfolios is the same three things: a shower that has been "fine" for two tenancies, a toilet that has been rocking long enough to have broken its seal, and isolation valves nobody can turn.

What we will not do
We will not quote a bathroom without seeing it. We will not touch gas work unless a Gas Safe engineer is doing it, which for us is the same team but for some firms is not. And we will not fit an owner-supplied part we think is wrong for the job without telling you plainly why first — if you still want it fitted after that, we will fit it and note it on the paperwork.
