The retailers sell the kitchen and subcontract the fitting. Trade-only suppliers such as Howdens do not sell to homeowners at all, so you buy through a fitter or builder holding an account. We hold trade accounts and are equally happy to fit a kitchen you bought from a retailer and price the fitting on its own.
The practical difference is accountability. Where the goods and the fitting come from two firms, a problem can become an argument about whose fault it is. Where one firm supplies and fits, it cannot.
When we are the wrong choice
- If the kitchen has not been delivered and you want a firm start date, we will give a provisional one, not a promise. Booking trades around an undelivered kitchen is how a job ends up half-fitted at Christmas.
- If you want the cheapest fitting price, we will not be it. Our number includes the electrician, the Gas Safe connection and the making good. Cheaper fit-only quotes frequently exclude all three, and you find out when the hob cannot be connected.
- If you only need one door or one appliance swapped, an independent joiner will be quicker and cheaper.
- If the layout you have chosen will not work, we will say so at survey rather than fit it.
