What Stockton's housing turns up

When we are the wrong choice
- If you have no power and neither do your neighbours, it is the network. Ring 105. It is free and reaches your distribution operator directly.
- If you want a rewire quoted over the phone, we will not do it. Anyone pricing a rewire without testing is guessing high to be safe, or guessing low and planning to find extras later.
- If you want the cheapest EICR in Stockton, it is worth knowing why cheap ones are cheap. A fast test that codes everything C3 produces a satisfactory report and a happy landlord, and it is worthless.
- If you need us to certify another electrician's work, we cannot. We can inspect and report on it, which is genuinely useful to buy, but certification belongs to whoever did the installation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an electrician and an approved electrician?
Approved or registered means the electrician belongs to a government-authorised competent person scheme such as NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA. Membership lets them self-certify notifiable work and issue the certificate directly, rather than paying building control to inspect it. An unregistered electrician may be perfectly skilled, but notifiable work they do has to be signed off separately, which costs time and money and sometimes simply does not happen. That missing paperwork is what surfaces when you sell the house.
Is there a list of registered electricians I can check?
Yes. Each competent person scheme publishes a searchable register, so you can confirm an electrician is currently registered before booking, much as you would check a Gas Safe card. It is worth doing, because registration lapses, and a certificate from someone no longer registered is worth much less than it looks.

Anyone quoting to fix every C3 as though it were urgent is selling you work you do not need yet.
Do I need a rewire or just a new fuse board?
Different jobs, and the test tells us which. A consumer unit change protects circuits that are themselves sound. If the cable behind the walls has perished or has no earth, a new board is a new lid on an old problem. We test first and tell you which you are actually looking at, including when it is the cheaper answer.
Can you add sockets without wrecking the decoration?
In most homes, yes. We lift boards and chase walls only where we must, make good afterwards, and our own decorators can finish the room properly if plaster is disturbed.
Can you install an EV charger?
We can prepare the supply and install the circuit. Whether your incoming supply and consumer unit take it without an upgrade is the question worth answering before you buy a charger, and that is a short survey rather than a guess.
