What fails is almost never the part you can see. It is the seals, the boards behind the tiles and the shower tray bedding, which is why a room that looks tired is often wetter than it looks.

What the price actually turns on

When we are the wrong choice

What is a day rate for a bathroom fitter?
We do not price bathrooms by the day, and the reason matters. A day rate moves the risk of a slow job onto you: if the tiling takes two days longer than expected, you pay for two more days. We price the whole room as one fixed job agreed in writing before anything starts, so the number you accept is the number you pay. Day rates make sense for open-ended repair work nobody can scope in advance. A bathroom can be scoped, so it should be.
How does a local fitter compare with B&Q or Wickes?
The big retailers sell you the kitchen or bathroom and then subcontract the fitting to local trades, often the same pool of fitters working in your area anyway. What you gain is their supply chain, their showroom and their guarantee on the goods. What you give up is a direct relationship with the people doing the work, and a design fee is usually built into the price.
