We do not start a strip-out before the materials are on site. A family without a bathroom waiting on a delivery is the worst way to run a job.
What Billingham houses throw up
Original pipework. In houses of this age the supply pipework has often been partly replaced and partly not, and what is behind the bath is not always what is under the sink. We check rather than assume, because a modern shower valve on tired supply pipework is a disappointing shower.
Extraction is the item most often missing from an original 1950s bathroom and the one that returns as mould: the rate comes from Approved Document F, and the circuit work in the zone around the bath is notifiable under Part P, certified by our own registered electricians. Fittings joined to the mains have to satisfy the water regulations, which WRAS approval certifies.

Older Billingham and the Saxon end of town
Around Old Billingham the stock is older and less uniform, and the assumptions above stop applying. Solid walls, different drainage arrangements and rooms that were converted rather than designed all change the job. Those get surveyed on their own terms.

How the job runs

If the heating is being changed too, quote them together, and if the kitchen is next on the list it is worth pricing at the same visit. Moving a radiator or losing a cylinder is straightforward while the bathroom is already stripped and awkward afterwards.

How long does a full bathroom refit take?
Five to eight working days on site for most full refits, once materials are here. A straight replacement is at the shorter end.
